A minister was convicted of first-degree murder in the Aug. 9 shooting death of his wife on the porch of their Baptist church parsonage in Port Angeles, Wash. The Rev. Grady Young, 61, who had said his wife, Elva Mae, was killed by a burglar, was found guilty by the Clallam County Superior Court jury after 12 1/2 hours of deliberation over two days. Prosecutors contend that Young ambushed his 55-year-old wife at the mobile home that serves as the parsonage for the Hillcrest Baptist Church because he was tired of being married, but didn’t want the possible scandal of a divorce.
