Point Loma Gains District 3 Final

Dawayne Burton made a free throw with no time remaining to give Point Loma Nazarene College a 79-78 overtime victory over Southern California College Saturday night in a NAIA District 3 semifinal playoff game at Chapman College.

Burton, who scored 21 points, was fouled at the buzzer after he rebounded a shot by teammate Greg Lanthier. His free throw decided a game that had been tied at halftime, 35-35, and at the end of regulation, 72-72.

Steve Bruce scored 26 points to lead Point Loma (22-9), which advances to the District 3 final against Tuesday night at Chapman College. Point Loma will play Biola, a 75-59 winner over Westmont Saturday.
