USIU’s Maritz Shoots 72 for 2-Stroke Lead
Laurette Maritz, three-time All-American golfer from United States International University, shot a 72 to take a two-stroke lead Friday in the first round of the Patty Sheehan Invitational woman’s collegiate golf tournament at Monterey.
UCLA’s Jean Zedlitz is second at 74. Pam Wright (Arizona State), Robin Hood (Oklahoma State), Clare Dolan (Stanford), Blue Kinander (Tulsa) and Flori Prono (USC) are tied at 75.
Helen Alfredsson shot a 76 for USIU, which is 10th in team standings at 320.
USC leads the team standings at 303, followed by UCLA (305), Stanford (307), Tulsa (308) and Oklahoma State (309). San Jose State and Arizona State at 310.
