Hermosa Beach : Ordinance to Be Rewritten
The city’s disturbing-the-peace ordinance will be rewritten because the city attorney says its current wording is “vague and overly broad.â€
The ordinance now makes it a misdemeanor to “act in a noisy, riotous or disorderly manner, or use any profane, obscene or abusive language†or to be “drunk or intoxicated†or “debauch the public morals or disturb the public peace.â€
The action comes after the recent settlement of a lawsuit in which a man arrested for allegedly yelling obscenities at police officers cited potential freedom of speech violations in the current ordinance.
