Moorpark Girls Defeat Cate in Wild-Card Soccer Playoff
Ann Middleton scored two goals and goalkeeper Kellee Roe posted her 10th shutout as Moorpark High defeated Cate, 2-0, on Tuesday in a Southern Section 2-A wild-card soccer playoff at Moorpark.
Middleton, who usually plays the left wing, was moved to the center striker position by Coach Ginger Stratton because of injuries and illnesses on the Moorpark squad. The move didn’t hamper the freshman’s performance as she scored her first goal 15 minutes into the match. She followed with her second goal (and seventh of the season) midway in the second half.
Moorpark (10-6-4) plays at South Pasadena in the first round of the playoffs on Thursday. Cate finished 14-3.
In boys 2-A wild-card playoff action, South Pasadena defeated Chaminade, 1-0.
