Quake Shakes Cajon Pass--but the Experts Didn’t Feel It
DEVORE, Calif. — A small earthquake shook the Cajon Pass northwest of San Bernardino on Tuesday, but there was no reported damage and people at a nearby seismic drilling site didn’t even feel it.
The 7:02 a.m. temblor registered 3.2 on the Richter scale and was centered nine miles west-northwest of San Bernardino, said Robet Finn, spokesman for Caltech in Pasadena.
“It was like a slam inside the house,†said Lucy Cotton, a Rialto resident who is a secretary in the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department. “My daughter and my husband said it felt more like a shake than a jolt.â€
The quake also was felt in Devore and San Bernardino, Finn said, but Sheriff’s Sgt. Mike Stodelle said there were no reports of damage.
Dan Moos, a geophysicist studying results of seismic drilling near here, said it wasn’t felt on the site of Stanford University’s experiments.
