The U.S. will delay its foreign trade report.

Commerce Secretary Malcolm Baldrige said the report will be delayed for about 14 days each month to give the Customs Service time to compile more complete information on imports. The action seeks to correct a longstanding problem with the monthly merchandise trade report in which data on imports was so backlogged that the current month’s figures reflected items which had in fact entered the country in earlier months.
