Soviet Dissident Dies in U.S. Hospital

WASHINGTON — Soviet refusenik Inna Meiman, who called her release from the Soviet Union for medical treatment a “fight for human rights,” died Monday in Georgetown University Hospital, it was announced today. She was 55.
Meiman arrived in Washington Jan. 19 for treatment of a malignant neck tumor. Confirmation of her death was withheld until the State Department could notify her husband, dissident mathematician Naum Meiman, who was refused Soviet permission to travel with her.
