Orange County Community College Baseball : Hernandez Gets 5 Hits to Pace Cypress

Cypress College had 22 hits and defeated San Diego City, 17-7, Saturday to advance to the semifinals of the College of the desert Tournament against OCC.
Rey Hernandez was 5 for 5 and scored three runs. Trevor Hoffman had three hits and scored three runs.
Paul Bunch, Roger Carter, Tony Mendoza and Bob Long had two hits each for Cypress. Long scored three runs.
In nonconference games:
Saddleback 6, Rio Hondo 2--The Gauchos scored four runs in the fourth inning to win their season opener at Mission Viejo. Dan Blancett pitched the first seven innings and Todd Musick the final two for Saddleback.
Steve Linton doubled to open the bottom of the fourth and scored on a triple by Steve Miller.
Pat Walker singled Miller home, stole second and scored on a single by David Shetland who scored the final run of the inning on a single by Scott Hefner.
Saddleback had 15 hits and Linton, Hefner, Shetland, Bill Lasher, Chad Fouts and Keith Hatch had 2 each.
Rancho Santiago 14, Southwestern 4--The Dons hit three home runs in their season-opening victory at Santa Ana. John McTaggart hit a home run in the fourth inning with a runner on, Bob Brucato hit a home run in the eight with a runner and Wade Clester hit a home run in the ninth with two runners on.
Frank Appice was 3 for 5 with two RBIs and Brent Reese and Troy Barnhart tied the school with four walks.
Dave Salcido pitched seven innings to get the victory.
