CHUCK NORRIS & ‘PLATOON’
Poor Chuck Norris.
He probably thinks his comments were being used as a serious rebuttal to “Platoon.” (Unfair, Calendar--that was as easy as shooting fish in a barrel.)
A couple of things, Chuck:
Stone wasn’t giving us a “negative movie with anti-heroes”--he was giving us a realistic look at men during wartime; he was not giving us the visual phony cartoon.
As for your own film about “a man who has a cause,” well, Chuck, give us a major break.
The only cause in your “Missing in Action” clones is making money. You are uncomfortable with any ambiguities. But the reality is that the Americans did do some things wrong, and that tarnishes the Good Guy image.
And the reality is that the enemy isn’t evil incarnate, and that makes him human. And to understand these realities is to understand the horror of war.
