Bach’s Heavenly Music

Mary Ann Bonino, reviewing Pelikan’s “Bach Among the Theologians” (The Book Review, Dec. 21), offers her version of an old chestnut: “ . . . Although the angels play Mozart en famille , God himself will listen only to Bach.” I prefer the version I heard several years ago:
When the angels play for God, they play Bach. When they play for themselves, they play Mozart--and God eavesdrops.
