Six Professionals Tie With 69s in Charity Golf Tournament

Six pros--Jerry Pate, Steve Pate, Mike Reid, Chris Terry, Tommy Armour III and Scott Spence--each shot three-under-par 69s Tuesday to share individual honors in the 16th annual Howard Cosell’s Day With the All-Americans golf tournament at the The Club at Morningside in Rancho Mirage, Calif.
Gary Halburg, Greg Twiggs and Mike Gove were next with 71s, one ahead of Lee Elder, Bob Murphy and J.C. Snead.
Former collegiate golf stars, celebrities and businessmen play in the event whose proceeds provide college scholarships for needy youngsters.
In the team competition, Elder led his team of Billy Martin, former New York Yankee manager; Lewis Figone, Jerold Glassman and Pinky Schiffman to victory for the second year in a row. They totaled a net 115 in the two best balls of fivesome competition.
