Authorities at O’Neill Regional Park in Orange County said there have been three, perhaps four, more sightings of mountain lions in recent days, but they still plan to ask permission to reopen, subject to restrictions similar to those imposed at the Ronald W. Caspers Wilderness Park where two small children were mauled by mountain lions last year. O’Neill has been closed to the public since Dec. 26, when numerous lion tracks were found in and near heavily used picnic areas. Tim Miller, manager of the county’s regional parks facilities, said reopening would require that children be barred from all but designated picnic areas or a visitors center near the park entrance and be required to remain under close supervision of an adult.
