Pirmin Zurbriggen of Switzerland won his third World Cup downhill of the season at Garmisch-Partenkirchen, West Germany, and leads the men’s overall standings with 127 points, nine ahead of Richard Promatton of Italy.
Zurbriggen broke the five-year-old course record with a winning time of 1 minute 50.33 seconds for 2.06 miles. The previous best time for the Kandahar course was 1:50.52 by Canada’s Steve Podborski in 1982.
Michael Mair of Italy finished second in 1:50.59, and Switzerland’s Peter Mueller was third in 1:50.83.
