Phil Zevenbergen scored 17 of his 27 points in the second half to lead Washington to a 70-61 victory over California Saturday night at Berkeley, lifting the Huskies into the Pacific 10 Conference lead.

Cal trailed, 37-28, at halftime but surged within 61-57 when Kevin Johnson made a three-point shot with 3:19 left. But Zevenbergen, who also had 13 rebounds, scored 7 of Washington’s final 9 points, including 3 free throws, to clinch the victory.

Chris Welp added 12 points and 14 rebounds for Washington (9-6 overall, 3-1 in the Pac-10) before fouling out with 1:35 left.

Johnson scored 27 points for Cal (10-6, 4-2).

Oregon State 71, Oregon 63--Jose Ortiz scored 19 points, and freshman guard Gary Payton added 17 to lead the Beavers past the Ducks in a Pac-10 game at Corvallis, Ore.

Payton also had 9 assists, 5 rebounds and 3 steals. Ortiz added 8 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 key steals late in the game.

Oregon State (10-3, 3-2) outscored Oregon, 14-5, in the last five minutes to overtake the Ducks (8-6, 2-3), who had a 58-55 lead with 5:29 left.

Ortiz put the Beavers ahead to stay, 59-58, on a basket with 4:01 left, and Oregon State clinched the victory with a rare five-point play.

Earl Martin stole the ball and was fouled while making a layup. He sank the free throw, and teammate Joe Harge was fouled during the play by Oregon’s Keith Balderston. Harge made both free throws to give the Beavers a 64-58 lead with 2:51 left.

Stanford 93, Washington State 76--Eric Reveno came off the bench to score 19 points, and Howard Wright added 18 to lead the Cardinal past the Cougars in a Pac-10 game at Palo Alto.

Reveno scored eight of his points in a 2 1/2-minute span as Stanford (10-5, 4-2) broke open a close game and took an 81-69 lead with 3:17 left.

Joe Wallace scored 24 points for Washington State (6-6, 2-2) but sat out eight minutes of the second half with foul trouble.
