In a round marred only by his first bogey of the tournament, Ken Green shot a four-under-par 66 on the Carmel Valley Ranch course Friday to move into first place in the $250,000 Spalding Invitational golf tournament.
Green took a two-stroke lead over Al Geiberger into today’s final round of the non-PGA Tour event. Green had a 54-hole total of 203. Geiberger shot a one-under-par 71 at Pebble Beach Friday.
The 60 players who survived the cut will play the final round on the par-71 Carmel Valley Country Club course today.
Hale Irwin had five birdies on the back nine to tie Scott Verplank for the lead at 137 after two rounds of the $250,000 FILA Invitational at Fort Myers, Fla.
Irwin, who started the day three strokes off the pace, shot a four-under-par 68. Verplank had a 71.
