Italian Mail Slower Than a Horse Trolley

MILAN, Italy — Italy’s postal system is slower than a horse-drawn trolley, with letters taking an average of seven to 10 days to travel from north to south of the country, according to a survey published Wednesday.
The survey, carried out last month by the Milan consumer’s organization, showed that a letter mailed in Milan took 10 days to reach the central city of Viterbo and five days to cover the 30 miles to Varese.
The average speed of delivery was six miles an hour--slower than a horse-drawn trolley--with express services little faster.
