Two Nestor residents were arrested and booked on suspicion of drug possession Tuesday after police found more than two pounds of marijuana, small amounts of crystal methamphetamine and several pills at their home, police said.

Police also found about 50 guns, including military type rifles, numerous shotguns, handguns, flare pistols and about 5,000 rounds of ammunition, according to Detective Wes Breedlove.

Arrested were Paul Barnstead, 36, and Kelley Steele, 25. Barnstead also was booked on a felony count of possessing ammunition restricted for military use, Breedlove said.

The arrest was part of a two-month undercover operation begun by police after they received a tip that drugs were being sold at the home, in the 2000 block of Imogene Avenue.

Police also found that the back gate had been booby-trapped with an explosive device used in military training, Breedlove said.

Steele’s 6-year-old son, who was at the residence, was taken to Hillcrest Receiving Center, Breedlove said.
