‘86 AN OFF YEAR FOR MEXICAN FILM

The Mexican movie industry continued to suffer in 1986 from economic difficulties and a scarcity of artistic inspirations, according to an official of the National Cinematheque.

Susana Lopez Aranda, chief of the cinematheque’s supervision department, said that the majority of Mexican movies released this year had drug trafficking or sex as their main topics.

“During 1986, the Mexican government reduced its budget for official production, and private producers had very little to invest in cinematographic projects,†she said.
