DECADENT ART
In regards to Herr Hinchley’s letter about the Museum of Decadent Art (Calendar Letters, Dec. 21), I would like to bring up a little history of this museum.
It was established by Dr. Goebbels to display art that lacked a National-Socialist outlook. It was closed down after the German public decided they would rather see this degenerate modern art instead of the Volkish art that the Nazis wanted the public to see.
The German government disposed of this decadent art by auctioning it off for pennies on the dollar to art museums in other countries where it can be seen today. The non-decadent art is now known only to historians because it lacked real artistic merit.
Bravo to MOCA for looking to the artistic rather than the accepted.
