Mancini’s In-Law Rescued in Fire

A live-in housekeeper dragged composer Henry Mancini’s elderly mother-in law to safety when flames swept through their mobile home in the Malibu Riviera area, sheriffs deputies reported Friday.
The deputies said that Josephine Roberts, 81, suffered second- and third-degree burns on her legs Christmas night when an electric blanket apparently shorted out, setting her bed on fire. Awakened by the elderly woman’s screams, the housekeeper, Maria Sanchez, ran to the bedroom and pulled Roberts outside.
Roberts was later hospitalized at the Brotman Medical Center burn ward. Damage to the mobile home, which was largely destroyed, was estimated at $100,000.
