AMERICAN MUSIC AWARD NOMINEES

Janet Jackson, with nine, and Whitney Houston, with seven, have received the most nominations in the 14th annual American Music Awards.
The nominations, announced Tuesday, are based on the year-end charts of Cash Box magazine. The winners, who will be determined by a poll of the record-buying public, will be announced in a three-hour special airing Jan. 26 on ABC television.
Here are nominees in selected categories:
Pop/rock male vocalist: Peter Gabriel, Robert Palmer, Lionel Richie, David Lee Roth.
Pop/rock female vocalist: Whitney Houston, Janet Jackson, Madonna, Tina Turner.
Pop/rock group: Genesis, Heart, Huey Lewis & the News, Van Halen.
Country male vocalist: Ronnie Milsap, Willie Nelson, George Strait, Hank Williams Jr.
Country female vocalist: Barbara Mandrell, Reba McEntire, Juice Newton, Tanya Tucker.
Country group: Alabama, Forester Sisters, the Judds, Marie Osmond & Paul Davis.
Soul/R&B; male vocalist: Freddie Jackson, Billy Ocean, Lionel Richie, Stevie Wonder. Soul/R&B; female vocalist: Anita Baker, Whitney Houston, Janet Jackson, Patti LaBelle. Soul/R&B; group: Atlantic Starr, Cameo, New Edition, Run-D.M.C.
Nominations were also made in single, album and video categories.
