British Cleric Moves Into Tent to Protest Christmas Materialism

CHESTER-LE-STREET, England — A British clergyman has moved out of his home and into a tent to live without luxuries to protest what he called the commercialization of the Christmas season.
Anglican minister Stephen Taylor, 31, has pitched his tent outside his home in County Durham, northern England, and pinned a statement explaining his action to a nearby tree.
“I think Christmas has lost its way for many people,” he said Tuesday. “Over recent years they have been compromised into taking an increasingly materialistic view of this time of year. . . . It puts enormous financial strains on some families.”
