GM’s Van Nuys plant may close briefly next month.
The facility has a “strong possibility†of shutting down for two weeks beginning Jan. 5 because of high inventory levels, said Ernest D. Schaefer, Van Nuys plant manager. General Motors officials said a decision on whether to temporarily stop production at the San Fernando Valley plant, and possibly others building slow-selling cars, will likely be made at the monthly Scheduling Committee meeting to be held next week in Detroit.
