The first day of a surprise two-day commercial truck inspection resulted in 165 citations for 516 violations at a checkpoint in Boron, the California Highway Patrol reported. The inspection was designed to check for such violations as equipment problems and transportation of hazardous materials. Thirty of the violations involved the latter, CHP public information officer John Anderson said. Of the 165 trucks cited, 70 were taken out of service until repairs or modifications could be made.
