400 Pay Last Tribute to Band Leader Heidt
An estimated 400 mourners attended funeral services Saturday for former band leader Horace Heidt, who died Monday at the age of 85, in the Hall of Liberty at Forest Lawn Hollywood Hills.
Among those present were actor Dick Van Patten, actress Barbara Hale and singer Roberta Sherwood. Heidt’s four children and Frank DeVol, once a saxophonist in the Heidt band, offered eulogies to the man whose Musical Knights produced some of the most memorable tunes of the Big Band era. Burial was private.
