Big Eight Roundup : Colorado Gets Second Place and Bowl Bid
Marc Walters, O.C. Oliver and Anthony Weatherspoon scored two touchdowns apiece Saturday at Manhattan, Kan., as Colorado crushed Kansas State, 49-3, and accepted a bid to play Baylor in the Bluebonnet Bowl with its best Big Eight record in 25 years.
After losing their first four games, the Buffaloes reeled off a five-game winning streak that included an upset of Nebraska and finished second in the Big Eight. Their only conference loss was to Oklahoma, leaving them 6-5 overall and 6-1 in the Big Eight.
Kansas State finished 2-9 overall and 1-6 in its first year under Coach Stan Parrish.
Oklahoma St. 21, Iowa St. 14--At Stillwater, Okla., Mike Gundy threw for three touchdowns, and split end Hart Lee Dykes set a single-season reception record for the Cowboys.
Gundy threw scoring passes of 10, 1 and 20 yards as the Cowboys ran their record to 5-5 overall, 3-3 in the Big Eight.
Dykes caught 11 passes for 131 yards and a touchdown. His 58 receptions this season broke the record of 54 set in 1968 by Terry Brown.
Iowa State finished 6-5 overall and 3-4 in the conference.
Missouri 48, Kansas 0--At Columbia, Mo., Ronnie Cameron teamed with Victor Moore on two touchdown passes within 50 seconds of the second quarter as the Tigers handed the Jayhawks their seventh straight loss.
Missouri, 2-4 in the Big Eight and 3-7 overall with one game remaining, took advantage of eight Kansas turnovers to snap a three-game losing streak against the Jayhawks, 0-7 in the Big Eight and 3-8 overall.
