Modine Manufacturing announced that it will close its sheet-metal manufacturing plant in Whittier during early 1987, with phase-out of operations scheduled to begin immediately. The closing of the plant will eliminate excess production capacity for sheet-metal radiators. Modine will shift Whittier production primarily to its plants in Trenton, Mo., and Emporia, Kan. At present, the plant has 74 active employees, with 40 additional employees in a layoff status.
