Jury: O’Neal Didn’t Hurt Officer

NEW YORK — A Civil Court jury found today that actor Ryan O’Neal committed battery on a moonlighting policeman but did not cause any injury when he threw a soft drink bottle six years ago.

The verdict means that Brendan J. Campbell, 38, will not be able to collect monetary damages for an eye injury he says he sustained. Campbell said his cornea was scratched when O’Neal, entering a limousine with Farrah Fawcett outside the Pierre Hotel, threw a bottle at a photographer, smashing the camera. O’Neal denied throwing the bottle.
