San Diego Community College Football : San Diego Mesa Plays Riverside
San Diego Mesa, which has been on both ends of an upset the past two weeks, plays undefeated Riverside Saturday.
Two weeks ago, Mesa upset Saddleback, 14-3, only to be upset by Orange Coast, 24-14, last week.
In the loss to OCC, Mesa quarterback Jeff Sturch completed 20 of 47 passes for 351 yards, 2 touchdowns and 3 interceptions.
Riverside is ranked second in Southern California and third in the nation. The Tigers, one of the few community college football teams that rely on the run more than the pass, is led by sophomore Mike Moore, who has rushed for 903 yards in 123 carries.
Southwestern quarterback Brad Platt set single-game school records for completions, attempts and yardage in the Apaches’ 48-31 loss to Saddleback. Platt completed 31 of 55 passes for 382 yards, 2 touchdowns and 2 interceptions.
He tied the completion mark in the first half, completing 21 of 35 for 261 yards.
Palomar has moved into the JC-Gridwire Top 20 poll, tied for 20th with De Anza in Cupertino, Calif., and Lees-McRae in Banner Elk, N.C.
