Community College Roundup : Golden West Beats State’s Best to Win Tournament
Craig Douglas, Gary Ticy and Jason Jeffries each scored two goals Saturday to help Golden West College upset top-ranked Long Beach City, 9-7, in the championship game of the Cypress water polo tournament at Cypress College.
The game was tied after the first quarter, 1-1, and at halftime, 3-3. But Golden West pulled ahead in the third quarter, outscoring Long Beach, 5-3, with Jeffries getting two goals. The teams each scored a goal in the fourth quarter.
Golden West (19-3) is ranked No. 3 in the state. The Rustlers defeated No. 2-ranked Orange Coast, 11-7, in the semifinals. In that game, Jeffries scored four goals.
In the consolation game, Orange Coast defeated Cuesta, 13-12.
