Top Auction Price Set by Chippendale Chair

NEW YORK — A Chippendale chair sold Saturday for a record $1.1 million during an auction of American furniture, Sotheby’s auction house said.
The carved mahogany wing armchair, circa 1770, was purchased by Eddy G. Nicholson, a private collector from New Hampshire, said William Stahl, head of the American Decorative Arts Division at Sotheby’s.
