Alhambra : Golf Fees Increased
The City Council has voted to increase fees at the Alhambra Municipal Golf Course after determining that nearby courses charge higher admission. The increases, approved by the council 5-0, will take effect Nov. 1.
On weekdays, 18 holes will cost $8 rather than $7; on weekends, they will cost $11 rather than $9.50.
The city Department of Human Services surveyed 13 nearby golf courses and found that Alhambra’s park charged far lower fees, said William R. Kinman, director of leisure services.
Kinman said the low fees hurt Alhambra because maintenance costs for the golf course are high. “We want to be competitive and pay our bills as well,†he said. “The increases will go into a general operating fund to cover maintenance costs that go up every year.â€
Last year operating costs for the golf course were $681,000 and playing fees provided $500,000, said Maureen Tall, city administrative assistant. The increased fees will provide an estimated $100,000, Tall said.
