Testimony began in the DeLorean trial.
Prosecutors called their first witness and submitted documents about John Z. DeLorean’s dealings with other auto makers to bolster their charge that DeLorean embezzled $8.9 million from investors. The government’s first witness was William Collins, former head of the automotive division for the John DeLorean Co. He testified that he had been unaware of payments to GPD Services, a Swiss company that subcontracted design work for DeLorean to Group Lotus, a British firm. In opening statements, prosecutors described the GPD payments as the first step in a tangled trail of money that eventually led to DeLorean’s personal bank account.
