Boosted by a 32% rise in worldwide sales, Cambridge, Mass.-based Polaroid Corp. posted a 61% increase in third-quarter net earnings, compared to the same period last year. Also, U.S. sales were 28% higher in the 1986 third quarter than in the comparable 1985 period, resulting from higher unit sales of film, consumer cameras and videotape. Retail sales from dealers in the United States of both consumer cameras and film also increased in the period. Revenue from the company’s international business was favorably affected by the weaker U.S. dollar and a marked increase in the sale of camera units.
