Virginia-Georgia Game Changed to Sept. 5

ATHENS, Ga. — Virginia will be Georgia’s first opponent of the 1987 college football season when they meet Sept. 5 in Athens.
The game had been set for Oct. 31. Lee Hayley, Georgia’s associate athletic director, said the school agreed to a request by Virginia to change the schedule.
Hayley said Virginia gave no reason for the request, but he said Georgia was happy to pick up a game before its originally scheduled opener Sept. 12 against Oregon State.
In addition to preventing Georgia from starting its season later than most other teams, the switch gives the Bulldogs an open date before the Florida game Nov. 7, 1987.
