Kris Morton, shaking off the effects of a shoulder injury, had 19 kills and 13 blocks Thursday night to lead San Diego State to a four-game victory over Pepperdine in a nonconference women’s volleyball match at Malibu.
The Aztecs, nationally ranked No. 1 in NCAA Division I, won the match, 16-14, 13-15, 15-9, 15-7.
Morton injured her right shoulder in a loss to the University of Pacific two weeks ago and had played sparingly until Thursday night. She was credited with six solo blocks.
Renee Pankopf added 21 kills and 4 aces as San Diego State took control of the net and recorded 31 blocks as a team.
“That was our best blocking of the season,” Aztec Coach Rudy Suwara said. “That was the key to the match.”
The Aztecs (30-1) return to Pacific Coast Athletic Assn. play with a 7:30 match tonight at UC Santa Barbara. SDSU returns home Oct. 23 to meet Cal State Long Beach.
