Defector’s Kin Likes Capitalism; $5,000 Will Tell You Why

RICHMOND, Calif. — This is the age of instant media stars, and Leo Lockshin doesn’t come cheap.
Lockshin, 78, became a hot property for reporters today after his 47-year-old son, Arnold, popped up in Moscow with his family, saying he had been granted asylum after being a victim of “underground psychological warfare” in the United States.
The senior Lockshin talked to at least one reporter from his home in Richmond on Wednesday shortly after Tass press agency broke news of the defection, but by today he had grown cagey.
“If you want to talk to me, you’ll have to pay $5,000 in a certified check in my hand,” he told a caller before hanging up.
Socialism apparently doesn’t run in the family.
