A California man was arrested at an undisclosed site in Connecticut by U.S. customs agents and charged in Hartford with exporting Hawk missile technology without authorization of the State Department. Arif Durrani of Westlake in San Mateo County was ordered held without bond pending a Wednesday hearing. The U.S. attorney’s office in Hartford said Durrani had placed an order with a Connecticut supplier for components for the surface-to-air missile, which is designed for low-altitude defense against air attack, and asked that the parts be shipped to the Royal Jordanian Air Force in Amman. Officials said the missiles got as far as Brussels.
