Longshoremen End Walkout

NEW YORK — A three-day walkout by dockworkers at ports from Maine to Virginia ended today when management agreed to extend an expired contract until Nov. 17 and continue negotiating, the International Longshoremen’s Assn. announced.
Earlier, the longshoremen had rejected wage cut proposals by cargo-handling companies in Virginia, Rhode Island, Pennsylvania and Maryland. Union officials had said agreements in the New York-New Jersey and Boston areas were close.
