Lockheed to Mesh CalComp Unit Into System

Lockheed Corp. said it will mesh its newly acquired CalComp unit into its information systems group, doubling the group’s revenues and creating a $750-million-a-year computer software and hardware business.
CalComp, which employs about 1,000 workers at its Anaheim headquarters and has an additional 2,000 employees worldwide, makes computer graphics equipment, principally for use by engineers. Lockheed’s computer unit produces software products for both engineering and specialized applications.
CalComp’s management will remain, said Bill Conlin, CalComp’s president, who added that Lockheed has “aggressive plans to expand their computer business.”
Lockheed acquired CalComp’s parent, Nashua, N.H.-based Sanders Associates, in July for $1.2 billion.
For its fiscal year ended July 31, CalComp reported sales of about $325 million.
In addition to its aircraft, missile and electronics businesses, Lockheed has interests in shipbuilding and ocean mining.
