Robert L. Kirk, president of LTV Corp., has resigned to head the aerospace and electronics division of Allied-Signal Inc., the companies have announced.

Kirk, 57, resigned Sunday from the LTV post that he had held since June, said Chuck Palmer, director of corporate communications.

The resignation, effective Oct. 31, was not related to LTV’s July filing for protection from creditors under Chapter 11 of the U.S. Bankruptcy Code, Palmer said.

Kirk, who previously had served as president of LTV Aerospace & Defense, will not be replaced, Palmer said.

“We have had rapid growth in our aerospace and defense business over the past few years and have won major new contracts, pushing our backlog to more than $4 billion,†said Raymond A. Hay, chairman and chief executive of LTV Corp. “Bob Kirk played a major role in this buildup.â€

Kirk has more than 30 years of experience in the aerospace and defense industries, an Allied-Signal news release said.
