St. Croix/St. Thomas

Jerry Hulse is to be commended for his articles on St. Croix and St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands (July 20 and 27). However, a photograph with the St. Croix article that was identified as Christiansted Harbor is actually the harbor of Charlotte Amalie on St. Thomas. And he failed to mention an interesting side of the 97-year-old man, Alton Adams, around whom the St. Thomas story was written. He happens to have been the first black bandmaster in the Navy, and two or three of his musical compositions are among the marches in the repertoires of U.S. military bands.
