San Diego
The driver of a car that rammed into a crowd of teen-agers on Fiesta Island was ordered Tuesday to stand trial on four counts of attempted murder.
Martin Stockert, 27, of Linda Vista, also faces four counts of assault with a deadly weapon and driving under the influence of alcohol.
San Diego Municipal Judge Joe Littlejohn dismissed one attempted murder and one assault charge because one victim did not show up to testify in the preliminary hearing, which began Monday.
Arraignment in Superior Court was set for Oct. 2. Stockert remains in county jail in lieu of $50,000 bail.
The injured victims who testified were Calvin MacGregor, 20; Kimberly Myers, 16; Celeste Abbott, 14, and Richard Kukan, 19.
MacGregor appeared in court wearing a full leg cast and may be medically discharged from the Navy if his leg does not heal soon, said Deputy Dist. Atty. Evan Miller. Myers was dragged by the car about 35 feet but only suffered bruises.
The Aug. 13 incident came after a fight between Stockert and Daniel Bostic, 18, who testified that Stockert insulted and touched his girlfriend.
After the car hit the people, spectators grabbed Stockert out of his car and beat him. He was later hospitalized with minor injuries.
Many of the teen-agers partying had attended an AC/DC rock concert at the Sports Arena earlier in the evening.
