El Monte : Consortium to Provide Jobs
The Mid-Valley Manpower Consortium, an El Monte-based program for the unemployed, and the city of Los Angeles have signed a contract providing for 20 to 30 jobless San Gabriel Valley residents to work full time collecting dog license fees. Those hired by Mid-Valley will be trained for five to eight weeks before going to Los Angeles to collect the fees.
The training is funded by the federal Job Training Partnership Act. The salaries and cost of running the program will be paid for by the revenue that the workers generate.
