Newport Harbor Girls Win Volleyball Openers

Newport Harbor High School opened its girls’ volleyball season with a victory in a 30-team tournament Saturday at El Camino College.

The Sailors defeated Capistrano Valley, 15-10, in the final. Capistrano Valley had advanced to the final with a 15-11 victory over Mission Viejo; Newport Harbor beat Dana Hills, 15-4, in the semifinals.

Tracy Kruger of Newport Harbor was the most valuable player, and teammate Jenny Evans and Woodbridge’s Mindy Adams were named to the all-tournament team.
