Bo Jackson Is Called Up by Royals

Bo Jackson will join the Kansas City Royals today when major league rosters are expanded to 40 players.

Jackson, the Heisman Trophy winner from Auburn who spurned millions of dollars from Tampa Bay of the NFL, spent most of the season playing for the Memphis Chicks of the Southern League.

After a 4-for-45 start, he batted .338 at Memphis, finishing with a .277 average, 7 homers and 25 RBIs.

Meanwhile, Kansas City third baseman George Brett flew to Los Angeles to have his right shoulder examined by Dr. Frank Jobe. Brett reported soreness in the shoulder joint after diving for a ball Friday night during a game against the Milwaukee Brewers. Brett did not play Saturday or Sunday against the Brewers.

The Royals did not say when Brett, who is hitting .298 with 15 homers and 67 RBIs, might return to the lineup.
