The American people clearly believe their local school boards and state governments--rather than the federal government--should bear most of the responsibility for determining their local schools’ educational programs, according to the Gallup Poll. Nevertheless, many look to Washington for financial assistance to help implement these programs. The latest survey finds strong public support (57% to 17%) for giving local school boards more influence in setting school policy.
