Fourteen Advance to the Main Event on Third Day of Op Pro Surf Trials
Fourteen of the 16 qualifying surfers have advanced to today’s main event following the third day of the men’s trials at the Op Pro surfing championship Thursday at Huntington Beach. Two more qualifiers will be determined this morning.
Surfers who advanced Thursday were Brad Gerlach, Ted Robinson, Stuart Condon, Bryce Ellis, Scott Daley, Jeff Booth, Mark Richards, Mike Parsons, Matt Archbold, Rob Bain, Gary Green, Todd Holland, David Eggers and Mitch Thorson. Greg Day suffered a dislocated shoulder in Thursday’s action, delaying some of the competition.
Qualifiers for the semifinals of today’s separate main event trials include Gerlach, Daley, Bain, Parsons, Thorson and Holland. Two more qualifiers in this event will be determined after Day’s foursome completes its trial today.
In one-on-one competition today, Booth will meet Tom Curran, Holland will meet Barton Lynch, Gerlach will face Charlie Kuhn, and Parsons will meet Michael Ho.
Because of delays, the women’s trials started late Thursday evening and will continue this afternoon.
