Organizers of the just-completed Gay Games athletic competition in San Francisco said they have asked the U.S. Supreme Court to let them use their originally planned title of Gay Olympic Games. Use of the name was vetoed by the U.S. Olympic Committee. U.S. District Judge John Vukasin and the U.S. 9th Circuit Court of Appeals have twice ruled that federal law gives the USOC the sole right to the commercial use of the word “Olympic” to promote any product or Athletic event.
